I really wanted the M32 as opposed to the X32 when I first started looking at budget digital consoles but an extra £2k for the Midas pre's, the better sliders, the slightly better build quality and the Midas name, was a step too far, so this is a good compromise IMO. We've spent quite a bit of money recently trying to get our audio quality tip top. I'd raise the same argument as you that in a loud gig environment you'd be pushed to tell the difference *BUT* there is only a relatively small price premium to pay for the Midas pre's with the DL16 vs S16 and most of our shows *are* quiet theatre jobs where the difference could well be noticeable.
